CONTINUED FROM S.A. SETTLEMENT
In 1878 the Victorian Government opened up land for selection next to the South Australian border, in the parish of Leeor. William and Mary Ann applied for a selection and were successful; they were granted Section 13 of 320 acres, the payment being 1/- per acre for 20 years, when the land became freehold.

They moved to this selection and began building a home of small round bulloak trees and pug. At the northern side of their home was a diary to store food, meat, butter and cream, to try and keep it cool in the summer months. On the south side William had a beautiful orchard. While living at Leeor, William and Mary Ann still kept their holding at Bordertown, thus farming at both places.

William took an interest in public affairs and the surrounding district, and when the first annual show of the Kaniva and Lillimur Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held at Kaniva on September 3, 1884, William was one of the members on the committee.
